The Brisbane Festival is...well, what exactly? Up until a few years ago, I hadn’t paid any attention to the event at all. River Festival — a week of festivities along the Brisbane River that started with a huge fireworks spectacular called Riverfire — was the event I always marked on my calendar. In 2009, that festival was merged with Brisbane Festival, which is a celebration of the arts rather than the Brisbane River (which I thought was an interesting subject of celebration to begin with).
This festival has become a prominent part of September for many Brisbanites, not only for the Santos City of Lights laser light show and Riverfire, but for the events and performances that go on around the city for the three weeks.
I thought this Combi was a good example of the quirky nature of the festival. I was walking from my viewpoint for the light show over to the Chinese lantern garden when I came across this beautiful example of a Volkswagen...which also happened to double as a coffee shop. It seemed like a very interesting merging of cultures — the traditional Chinese with the modern Australian.
Here are a few other photos from the goings-on at South Bank. Don’t worry, more Riverfire photos are coming soon!
