United States

The good old USA, where I spent the first 23 years of my life. There’s so many things that I love about the country, but then again, there’s so many things that I don’t. I miss it though, and more importantly, I miss the people there. Will I go back and live there again? Quite possibly…but maybe not in Houston this time. Do I have a great time when I visit? Absolutely.

2014: Coachella to Queenstown and Everything in Between

Like most people, I am still struggling to comprehend that it is 2015. Where did 2014 go? As I sit here on a plane bound for my second adventure of the year–my first being the last few days of an amazing two-week road trip around NZ’s South Island with my family–I know that travel is…

How Trover Helped Me Plan My California Road Trip

In the months before I joined, I’d heard the name “Trover” bandied about quite a bit by other travel bloggers. This social network, designed as a resource for travellers rather than just being another photo-based social network, sounded interesting…but I just wasn’t sure if I could handle updating yet another social network. 15 Reasons To Go To Big Sur Right Now

Big Sur is a place of legend; a place where the mountains pushed headlong out of the sea to create an epic coastline of cliffs and canyons. The ruggedness of the area and the fact that the mountains have given very little leeway to anyone mean that very few people live in the area, making…

Photo of the Week: Arthur Ashe Stadium & The US Open

I may not have written much about it on this blog, but I’m a huge fan of tennis. I used to religiously attend any tournaments that came anywhere near Texas, and as a result, I got to see some of the best players in the world (Sampras, Agassi, and Federer, to name a few) play…

My Photos that “Capture the Colour”

Recently, a photo contest for travel bloggers was announced called “Capture the Colour.” Despite the fact that I’ve recently written about the dangers of photo contests, I was still excited to hear about this one (and while the terms & conditions do grant TravelSupermarket the right to reproduce my entry, it doesn’t give them copyright as…

Photo of the Week: Lombard Light Trails

In 2010, my company offered to send me to San Francisco for the JavaOne conference, which is the biggest conference for Java programmers in the world. I jumped at the opportunity — not only would I get to meet some interesting people in my industry and listen to some great talks, but I’d also get…

My 7 Super Shots

I have really enjoyed seeing the HostelBookers “7 Super Shots” meme going around the travel blogging community. It really shows off what great photographers these bloggers are as well! Even though I haven’t been nominated, the meme got me thinking. What photos did I have that would match each of the categories? This got me delving into…

“Mr Cabbie, Follow That Sunset!”

Standing in the restaurant on the top floor of the Mark Hopkins International, I was disappointed. Sure, I was going to get to see a decent sunset, but the view wasn’t what I’d hoped. I was in San Francisco — where was the expansive bay and the two iconic bridges that crossed it? Yes, I…
