England

England has always been a very special place for me; my mother is British, my grandparents still live there, and I made my first trip there at 6 months old. I’ve been lucky to go back 15 times since then, every time visiting the lovely Cleethorpes, most times visiting London, and always finding somewhere interesting in between.

Queuing at Wimbledon: How To Get Into Centre Court (and Have Fun Doing It)

Nobody queues quite like the British, and nowhere do they do it better than at Wimbledon. This oldest of Grand Slams has moved into the 21 st century in leaps and bounds in the last 10 years with a highly-publicised move to equal prize money in 2007 and a brand-new roof on Centre Court to…

My 13 Best Photos of 2013

It’s the time of year that all bloggers start trotting out their “best of” posts to show off what they’ve been up to during the year. Since 2013 was quite an eventful year for me–one where I quit my job and travelled to 13 countries, only 4 of which I’d visited before–I felt that, of…

Photo of the Week: On the Path to Victory

For someone that hasn’t played tennis in a year and a half, I’ve done pretty well at the Grand Slams this year. In Australia, I watched Novak Djokovic defeat Stan Wawrinka in an epic 5-setter that took over 5 hours to finish (and also conveniently finished only 5 hours before my flight home to Brisbane).…

Photo of the Week: A Stroll Past the Humber Bridge

My trip to Europe this year has been a good mixture of new and old. You’ve probably seen a lot of the “new” if you’ve been reading this blog in the last month as I recount the fun times I had in Lapland. However, I haven’t really mentioned the “old,” the things that are so…

Photo of the Week: The Calm Before the Storm

Last week, I headed down to London on a last-minute, two-day trip. My plans for the week had changed and I’d seen a few events on that I wanted to go to, so I figured why not? It’s not often that I get the chance to just “pop down to London for a few days”…

My Next Challenge: The Three Peaks Challenge…Twice

This week, I won’t be posting a Photo of the Week. Instead, I have an announcement that will hopefully result in many more photos in a few months’ time! In May of 2007, I took on a challenge. Only a few weeks after finishing my final exams, I was on my way up Snowdon, the…

So I Quit My Job…

I’ve been itching to tell you guys something for a while. First, visa restrictions got in the way — specifically, the clause in my Australian 856 permanent residency visa that said that if I quit my job within 2 years of getting my visa, I could face an investigation and possible loss of my permanent…

Six Months of Instagram: Part 2

A few weeks ago, I wrote about how much I love Instagram. I had stopped using my phone for photos prior to Instagram; I just didn’t see the point when I usually had a better camera with me to record the moment. Now I have thousands of photos stored on my little memory card, many…

My Travel Plans for the Rest of the Year

At the end of June, I went down to Sydney for a day of blog conference mayhem at Nuffnang Blogopolis. I had a great time and met a lot of really interesting people that I hope to be able to meet up with again soon. It really inspired me, not only to improve this blog…

Photo of the Week: Buckingham Palace (Where a Cop Laughed at Me)

One of the highlights of the Opening Ceremony for many people was the Queen’s participation in a James Bond segment which ended with her jumping out of a helicopter and parachuting into the Olympic Stadium. So, I figured it was fitting to showcase one of her many homes in this week’s photo of the week.…
