There are so many ways to summarise a year, especially one as eventful as 2012 was. A post of my best photos of the year is upcoming, but I always find it interesting to look at some of the numbers from the year as well. Some are useful — number of miles flown, etc — and some I just find entertaining or feel like they really represented an important part of my year. Plus, it’s interesting to compare them to previous years — for instance, I visited a lot more countries last year but flew nearly 10,000 less miles. I consider that a win!

What numbers do you think would give a good indication of how your year went?
I'm Kristin, a Texan born to an American father and English mother. I've been living in Australia since 2008. My first plane flight was when I was three weeks old and I've been hooked ever since. I never feel quite right unless I have a plane ticket (to anywhere, whether it's Sydney or Sweden) booked in my name!

Congratulations on your citizenship! That’s fantastic!
Thanks Jennifer! I’m pretty excited about the big Australia Day ceremony…and about applying for my passport afterwards! It’s nice that the Australian government has finally accepted that I’m never going to leave
Wow, that’s a lot of flights! I knew you were on-the-go this year but I didn’t really realize how much until this post
It’s been a really action packed year!
Yeah it definitely was a lot of flights, although I was surprised that I flew 10,000 less miles than last year. I thought it would be more than that because it felt like I spent waaay too much time on planes! It’s been a very action-packed year, and 2013 promises to be even more so because of some things that have happened recently. What travel do you have up your sleeve in 2013? Are you going on your honeymoon in May/June?
What a huge year! I haven’t been o/s since 2002 and haven’t really missed it at all! In fact I recently went for 2-3 years without even getting on a plane and was somewhat relieved about that fact.
But, your love for travel is wonderfully contagious!
Deb
I’m pretty amazed that the year became as huge as it did, what with being laid up with a bad knee for the first three months! I’m a bit jealous of you not having been on a plane for 2-3 years though — it’s definitely the part of traveling I like least, especially with how far away Australia is from everything. It’s great to hear that I’m sharing the love for travel though!
